• Centiped grass is a warm season, thick sod forming, uniform growing, and medium to light green colored grass. It is a slow growing, creeping grass with short stems growing upward. This makes it resemble a centipede insect and is why it got its name. Centipede is the lowest maintenance of the warm season grasses.

Directions for Planting Centipede Grass Seed

1. After you have tilled or harrowed the soil, smooth it with hand rakes.  Get rid of debris and existing grass.  Fertilize the seedbed with 10lbs per 1000 square feet using a complete fertilizer.  Do not use weed and feed fertilizer.
2. Mix the seed with dry sand and spread the seed using a broadcast spreader.  About 10 pounds of sand to one pound of seed will assure even distribution of seed.
3. The seed should be planted into the upper quarter inch of soil.  You can do this by lightly raking the seedbed.
4. Keep the seedbed moist for3 to 4 weeks after planting.  Mow weeds as needed to prevent seedlings from being shaded.
